Curtiss-Wright To Supply Rotary Electromechanical Actuators To AMRDEC For Containerized Weapon System (CWS)

Monday 26 March 2018

AUSA GLOBAL FORCE 2018 – Huntsville, Alabama (Booth #100) – March 26, 2018 -- Curtiss-Wright’s Sensors & Controls (S&C) division today announced that it received an order from the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC) to supply electromechanical actuators (EMA) for use on the Containerized Weapon System (CWS). Under the agreement, Curtiss-Wright will deliver prototype units of a rotary hatch opening solution for the CWS, which yields greater space for mission critical equipment and payloads.

“We are pleased to support AMRDEC with this actuation solution that provides the power and reliability required for this critical platform, all while decreasing energy consumption,” said Graham Macdonald, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Sensors & Controls division. “Curtiss-Wright’s EMA technology is the ideal fit for this application as it increases deployment efficiency and reduces maintenance requirements.”

The order comes after a year-long Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with AMRDEC to design and test rotary solutions for the container doors. The units will be manufactured and tested at Curtiss-Wright’s Sensors & Controls facility in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Curtiss-Wright is also currently delivering similar EMA components to AMRDEC for use on the Multi-Mission Launcher (MML) program.
