Curtiss-Wright Sensors & Controls Wins Contracts in Support of John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) Program

GILBERT, AZ – October 26, 2017 – Curtiss-Wright’s Sensors & Controls (S&C) division today announced it received two contracts from Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, for electromechanical actuators (EMA) and associated control systems to be installed on the U.S. Navy’s Ford-class aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy (CVN 79). Under the agreement, Curtiss-Wright will supply electromechanical actuation technologies for use on Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) systems and Aircraft Elevator (ACE) lock and stanchion systems.

Curtiss-Wright’s electromechanical actuators have industry-leading power density providing an efficient and powerful solution for lifting heavy loads, all while reducing maintenance and installation space by up to 40 percent.  These products will lift, raise, and lower Flight Deck equipment, such as the Jet Blast Deflectors and barricade stanchions, during critical flight operations. Curtiss-Wright is currently under contract and supplying actuators for ALRE systems installed in the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78).  For the aircraft elevator, S&C will provide stanchion and lock actuators to the CVN 79 platform.

Curtiss-Wright’s contract will be performed over two-and-a-half years, with first deliveries expected in 2019. Production will take place at the Sensors & Controls facility in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
